Dr John Diamond M.D. The person behind our logo image, and behind the philosophy that inspired Cordialis, is Australian medical philosopher and creativity and health pioneer Dr John Diamond. Anything can be Treatment or therapy. It's not the modality, But the attitude. John Diamond, M.D., Facets of a Diamond (2002), 45 John Diamond MD (1934 - 2021), developed an approach to health based around his concept of Life Energy, the healing power within each person that can be activated most powerfully through creativity. His work was expansive, encompassing painting, photography, music, philosophy, medicine, psychiatry, language, drama, dance, history, and more. His legacy includes a vast collection of tens of thousands of paintings, of which our logo image is one. This simple but powerful painting style he referred to as a 'Stillpoint', inspired by haiku poetry and painted as a form of active meditation. Diamond developed Stillpoint painting with the goal of actuating the viewer’s Life Energy: the innate healing power within every person that allows each of us not only to heal but to also reach out to others with love. Diamond hoped that his paintings would inspire the viewer to create their own Stillpoints, again with the intention of helping others. It is this aspect of Diamond’s philosophy that is central to the Cordialis approach - encouraging each person to activate their innate creativity through their innate ability to help others. Susan Burghardt Diamond, singer and longtime collaborator and wife of Dr Diamond, generously gifted the painting that we now use for our logo. The Cordialis Board of Directors thanks Susan for her continued support, engagement, advocacy, and enthusiasm for their work in activating her husband’s legacy. Cordialis Co-Founders Dr Susan West and Dr Georgia Pike-Rowney learned from and worked with Dr Diamond over many decades. They hope to honour his legacy through the many thousands of people helped by Cordialis to engage in creativity for their own wellbeing, and, most importantly, for the wellbeing of others, as was his intention.

Cordialis regularly facilitates events and develops projects and partnerships designed to encourage active engagement in creative care. Initiatives Events Cordialis runs both live and online events throughout the year, from free participatory events for the whole community, to corporate wellbeing workshops. Cordialis manages their events through Humanitix, as Australian not-for-profit ticketing platform who donates their profits to charity. Events Projects Cordialis regularly partners with organisations such as schools and care facilities, as well as researchers and practitioners in a range of fields, to develop projects that will benefit the broader community. Projects are generally funded by external grants or philanthropic donations that allow Cordialis to expand the scope of its impact. Learn more

Dr Georgia Pike-Rowney B.A., Dip.Ed., Ph.D. Director, Secretary, Co-Founder Dr Georgia Pike-Rowney is an award-winning researcher and practitioner spanning community outreach, the arts in education, health and wellbeing, history, museum curation, ethics, and pedagogy. Georgia was Convenor of the Music Engagement Program (MEP) at the Australian National University (ANU) School of Music from 2011-2018. In 2018 the MEP became a private volunteer-led organisation (now Cordialis). Georgia continued her research at the ANU in the College of Health and Medicine from 2018-2022. Her research included projects concerning mental health peer work, medical education, and the impacts of communal singing outreach for people living with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. In 2022 Georgia became the inaugural Friends' Lecturer in Classics and Curator of the ANU Classics Museum, a half-time philanthropically funded role involving the development of outreach and education initiatives, and conducting research into object-based learning, ancient creative practice and its role in education and health. She has managed international repatriation cases and curated new exhibitions engaging contemporary artists responding to ancient material culture. She has developed a long-term collaboration with BJ Anyos of the Australian charity Child Players Ltd (of which Georgia is on the Board of Directors) developing award-winning music and theatre education and outreach programs that promote mental health, wellbeing, and lifelong creative engagement in their participants. In 2016 Georgia was presented with a Children's Week Award by the Governor General of Australia for her work with Cranleigh School, a specialist school for children living with disabilities. In 2020 Georgia won a Research Fellowship at the National Library of Australia, in the memory of Averill Edwards, exploring the community singing movement in interwar Australia . In 2022 she collaborated with colleagues at the ANU and the Royal College of Music (London) to establish the International Network for Musical Care, involving practitioners and researchers from across the globe. In 2026 Georgia was awarded with the International Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes Award for Leadership in the Public Humanities and an Australian Academy of Humanities Travelling Fellowship for her work developing research and public education initiatives stemming from repatriation cases in the ANU Classics Museum.

Our Story The Cordialis Foundation emerges from over 30 years of practice and research, beginning at the (then) Canberra School of Music, subsequently the School of Music at the Australian National University. Originally known as the Music Engagement Program (MEP), a unique approach to music and other arts was initiated by Cordialis Chair and Co-Founder Dr Susan West , inspired by the work of medical philosopher and creativity for health pioneer Dr John Diamond . Across the MEP's history, many individuals contributed to its development, in particular Cordialis Co-Founders Dr Georgia Pike-Rowney and Nicole Mengel . Susan, a trained musician and music educator, helped found the Music Engagement Program in the 1990s initially as an exclusive training program for identified 'talented' young children. Through this work, she began to notice the ways in which some traditional types of music education could stifle, limit or disenfranchise young children. Through her work with Dr Diamond, she gradually pivoted the Music Engagement Program towards a broader social-altruistic philosophy open to all. Research on this approach demonstrated that wider engagement in shared musical experiences had positive effects on all those engaged, while continuing to develop creative skills to match individual needs and aspirations. The central tenets of this social philosophy involves sharing creativity with others whilst championing the individual musical and social choices of all those engaged. A classic example involves singing between groups such as children and senior citizens, where the children do not perform but instead move about the room engaging one-on-one, creating meaningful connections as well as promoting deeper engagement with the singing. Both child and senior in this scenario become the helpers of the other. In 2018, after some 30 years at the ANU, the Music Engagement Program was defunded by its long-term funder the ACT Government. The MEP, as a private entity, continued to offer free support to its many collaborators, using online platforms and resources especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The MEP strengthened its connections with like-minded partners such as the children's theatre education charity Child Players Ltd , offering a wider range of arts engagement. As of late 2025, the MEP is the core of the more expansive and holistic cultural charity, Cordialis. The team will continue to develop its unique approach to shared, social, altruistic artistic engagement in as it moves forward.
